Queensland’s 2025–26 Skilled Visa Program Is Now Open
The wait is over. Queensland has officially launched its 2025–26 Skilled Visa Program, opening the door for skilled professionals from around the world to live and work in one of Australia’s most dynamic and fast-growing states.
While the program is set to officially open on 19 September 2025, the Registration of Interest (ROI) process is already open. That means eligible candidates can now take the first step towards Queensland state nomination and getting a head start could make all the difference. There are significant changes to the program compared to last year, so make sure you are still eligible!

Visa Pathways Available
Migration Queensland offers nomination for two key visas:
Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)– a permanent visa for those who meet the criteria and commit to living and working in Queensland.
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491) – a provisional visa for those planning to live and work in regional Queensland.
This year’s program includes a number of targeted pathways to address skills shortages and regional development priorities. These include:
Skilled workers living in Queensland
Skilled workers living offshore
Graduates of a Queensland university
Building and construction workers
Small business owners in regional Queensland (491 only)
Each pathway has its own set of eligibility criteria, so it’s essential to understand the requirements before submitting your ROI. You can submit an ROI through Migration Queensland page.
Offshore Pathway: For Skilled Workers Outside Australia
If you’re currently living outside Australia, the Offshore Pathway is your opportunity to apply for Queensland state nomination, provided you meet the necessary criteria.
To be eligible under this stream, you must:
Have an occupation on the Queensland Offshore Skills List (the list has been reduced considerably compared to last years)
Score a minimum of 65 points on the Department of Home Affairs’ points test
Have at least one year of skilled work experience in your nominated (or closely related) occupation
Demonstrate competent English language ability
Be currently and at the time of invitation employed in your nominated (or closely related) occupation
Commit to living and working in Queensland for at least two years (subclass 190) or in regional Queensland for three years (subclass 491)
You’ll also need to submit a valid Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect before lodging your ROI with Queensland. You can choose only one visa subclass in your ROI and lodge only one ROI.
For many skilled workers overseas, this pathway offers a clear and achievable route to starting a new life in Australia, but timing, accuracy, and preparation are key.
